“The Security of Eternal Treasure”
Luke 12:13-34

Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Luke 12:33-34

How we spend our time and money reveals our heart.  Have you looked at your calendar lately?  What about your checkbook? It might be a tough examination, but it will highlight this spiritual principle. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  The bottom line is that we invest our time and energy and money on the things we love.

But the real question is, are we investing wisely?  Do our investments of time, energy, and money have eternal consequences?  Let’s ponder a couple questions.

Investing in a home or mutual fund or business venture, temporal or eternal consequences?  Temporal.

Investing in prayer and serving God and others, temporal or eternal consequences?  Eternal.

These are quite easy questions to answer, but they can be internally challenging as well.

Our security, our real security, is eternal.  When we are vested in God’s Kingdom, we are vested in eternity, our treasure is eternal.

That is why Jesus said, “do not worry about your life,” which is temporal, “what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on.”

“But seek the kingdom of God,” which is eternal, “and all these things shall be added to you.” [12:31]

Notice our Lord’s promise, when we focus on His Kingdom we not only reap eternal treasure, but our Heavenly Father also supplies our every need here on this earth.  How’s that for an added bonus?

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” [Php 4:19] Supplying our temporal needs are promised when we remain focused on eternal treasures in heaven.

There is, however, an all-important order, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” [Matt 6:33]
